Governor starts surety-bond assistance program

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has launched a statewide surety-bond assistance program in a bid to boost state contracting among small businesses and businesses owned by minorities and women.

The program, which Cuomo kicked off yesterday, is called the New York State Surety Bond Assistance Program. A surety bond guarantees an obligation or contract.

Pamela Matt of New Hartford is the new executive director of the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce following an extensive nationwide search. She begins in her new role March 1.

Syracuse dealers ready for AutoExpo as industry sales pick up

SYRACUSE –– Local auto dealers are preparing to show their wares at the 104th Annual Syracuse AutoExpo, in hopes of building on the momentum of rebounding vehicle sales.

The new car show will feature hundreds of cars and trucks spread out through two buildings and four floors totaling 135,000 square feet at the Oncenter and Convention Center in Syracuse.


AGC: Syracuse lost 3,100 construction jobs since 1990



The Syracuse-area construction job market has declined by 21 percent since peaking in 1990, the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) said this morning at a press conference in the city.

Health-care employers face tough time finding qualified workers

Health-care providers continue to 

struggle to find skilled candidates 

or job openings, particularly specialized, technical positions.
